Join Dr. Mary Phillips, Associate Professor of Africana Studies at Lehman College, City University of New York, to look closely at the work and reflect on its representations of gender, spirituality, incarceration, feminism, and liberation.  

Dr. Phillips is currently a faculty fellow in the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study, where she is finishing a book manuscript on Black Panther Party veteran Ericka Huggins.
