CANCELLED: Professor's Pick with Dr. Rebecca Gibson

Fri Mar 20, 2020, 12:00PM - 1:00PM

Snite Museum of Art

In ancient Egypt, death rituals were put in place to reunite the person with their body in the afterlife.  Come hear Dr. Rebecca Gibson, Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology talk about the ritual of the canopic jars, the belief that drove the practice of mummification, and the meaning behind the Snite Museum's own three-thousand-year-old jackal-headed jar.

After discussing the work in the galleries, continue the conversation over lunch in the atrium.

The Professor's Pick series is sponsored by the Snite Museum Student Programming Committee to bring faculty, art, and ideas together.
