Painter Danae Mattes will talk about her current exhibition, Transitory Waterscapes, which is on view in the Snite Museum. It consists of 12 large scale paintings and an evaporation pool created on site by Mattes with the assistance of the ceramic art faculty and students of the UND Department of Art, Art History & Design.

The central subject of the exhibition is the landscape. Danae Mattis describes it as, "I am interested in expanding my undersatanding of 'landscape.' The pastroral perspective that had been developing since the 14th century inEuropean landscape painting became a tradition wherein the landscape existed as a backdrip for depictions of human activites, secular and religious."
