“Once you can see beyond the obvious, you’re in a whole new way of living.”

-Willie Cole

This artist talk is in conjunction with Cole’s exhibition on view in the Snite Museum galleries, Making Everything Out of Anything.  Cole uses everyday household objects—irons, ironing boards, women’s shoes, hair dryers, bicycle parts—to create works that explore African-American history, consumerism, economics, contemporary politics, gender, and race.  He has been referred to as an  “urban archaeologist,” for exploring universal and cultural concepts through these common, often discarded materials.
