Paint Me a Picture
Tell Me a Tale

-

Location: Entire Museum

Mother and daughter viewing and discussing a painting in the Snite Museum of Art

Celebrate the art of storytelling visually and verbally.  Professional storytellers Sally Perkins and George Schricker, along with activities in the galleries, will bring works of art to life for visitors of all ages.

Sally Perkins is a story performer and storytelling coach from Indianapolis.  She tells stories of all sorts—folk tales, wisdom tales, personal tales, historical tales, ghoulish tales—to audiences of all ages.   She will be telling a story called The Legend of a Violin which is an intriguing story of two and a half(!) young musicians in 17th century Cremona, Italy, and how one of their musical creations went missing years later.

George Schricker is Director of Wild Rose Moon, a dynamic new performance center and production house in Historic Downtown Plymouth, Indiana.  As a storyteller, he has performed his work extensively in schools, parks, libraries, museums, and festivals.  George will be telling the tale of the Coyote and the Stone which follows Coyote who after a brief existential discussion with himself, sets out to discover some humility—the hard way—discovering a close relative in the process.

George will be accompanied musically by Jim Yocom, the Director of Instructional Media Services at Indiana University South Bend and a talented musician who has developed an eclectic and innovative sound focusing on Dorian mode harmonica and West African Rhythms on djembe, which he integrates with American folk and blues music.

Stories will be repeated throughout the evening and will begin at 5:30, 6:15, and 7:00.  The spaces the stories will be told in will close so as to limit interruptions.  When not listening to tales, head into the galleries for fun and interactive activities exploring visual storytelling using works of art from the Museum's collections.

All 3rd Thursday events are free, open to all, include refreshments and are a great way to connect with art in new ways. All of the exhbitions and galleries will be open for viewing that evening.
