THIS TRIP WAS CANCELED ON SEPTEMBER 25 DUE TO LOW ENROLLMENT. We will organize another one in FAll 2016 so join the Friends of the Snite Museum to ensure you receive the trip brochure and discounted price.

ArtPrize® is a radically open, independently organized international art competition annually held in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.

For 19 days this fall, three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, will become an open playing field where anyone can find a voice in the conversation about what art is and why it matters. Art from around the world pops up in every inch of downtown, and it’s all free and open to the public.

The Friends of the Snite Museum of Art is organizing a trip to Grand Rapids for Saturday, Oct. 3, when you can be a part of this phenomenon! We leave Notre Dame campus at 7:30 a.m. A breakfast of coffee and pastry will be served on the way and allowing for a short rest stop, we will arrive at the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) at 9:45 a.m.

The day starts with an hour-long, docent-led tour of the ArtPrize exhibition at the GRAM at 10:00 a.m. You can then visit other galleries at the GRAM to see their permanent collection or begin your ArtPrize quest around the city. Art is found in restaurants, coffee bars and brew pubs; in bank or hotel lobbies; along the river and inside churches.

You will be armed with a city map and a list of recommended restaurants.

We suggest partnering with a spouse or friend to tour the city at your own pace. You may need to rest and taste test how Grand Rapids won the title “Craft Beer Capital of the USA” in 2013.

The cost for the trip is $55 for members of the Friends of the Snite Museum
and $65 for non-members.

Reserve your seat on the bus by no later than September 25.

See the attached brochure for more information and the reservation form.

All area college students (minimum age 18) can apply for a scholarship to take advantage of Friends bus trips with only a minimal investment on their part. Co-pay for the ArtPrize trip is only $15. Please contact Mary at mrattenb@nd.edu for an application.
