Reproductive prints, such as this example, were essential in disseminating information about discoveries of ancient art in Rome to artists, scholars, and connoisseurs across Europe who may not otherwise have had an opportunity to travel and see the works in person. It gives us valuable information about what the monument looked like in the first decades after its discovery in 1506.
